August 1, 2006: Unfortunately
at this date our shelter is full and not able to accept surrenders.
Please refer to the American
Ferret Association's Shelter Listing to find a shelter in
your area that may be able to help you. HOWEVER: We
do not allow ferrets to go unrescued if there is no one else
able to help in an emergency. If you contact other
shelters and they are not able to help, PLEASE
let us know and we will do our best to help you find an appropriate
home for your ferret(s).
Please consider
helping us out so we can open our doors again! Consider adopting
your next friend(s)!
The PFCS shelter is a full-service ferret rescue
and shelter organization. We currently have one main shelter
facility where our adoptable ferrets are cared for. The Forget-Me-Not
Ferret Rescue, located near Harrisburg, is run by Tracy Acker.
We also have a network of trained foster facilities who also
operate under the guidelines of the PFCS to help with special-needs
ferrets or when our main shelters are full. Our Director of
Shelter Operations, Kym Costanzo, oversees the entire shelter
network and manages the administration of the shelter. All adoption
and surrender requests are processed by the Director of Shelter
Operations and then passed along to the appropriate shelter
director. The shelter directors handle adoption screening and
surrender intake, as well as the enormous task of caring for
the ferrets 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Ferrets are accepted into our shelters as space
permits, where they are brought current on rabies and distemper
vaccinations and provided any medical care needed. All ferrets
are tested for Aleutians Disease Virus (ADV) prior to admission
to the shelter.
Ferrets are provided only the best in care while
they await placement in loving, permanent homes. The PFCS screens
all adopters thoroughly prior to placing any ferret in a new
home and provides ongoing education and support to prospective
or current ferret owners.
About our Shelter
Facility
Forget-Me-Not Ferret Rescue
Forget-Me-Not Ferret Rescue is run by Shelter
Director Tracy Acker out of her home in Enola, Pennsylvania
- a stone's throw from Harrisburg. Tracy has been one of the
most dedicated and active members and fosterers of the PFCS
since she joined in August, 2000. In October, 2004 Tracy took
the leap and opened a much-needed second shelter branch for
the PFCS. Her experience both as a foster home and her many,
many hours volunteering for our shelters made her the perfect
candidate for sheltering herself. Tracy's only problem: when
shelter ferrets come to her, they never want to leave! :) Tracy's
personal website is coming soon, check back!
If you would like to contact the PFCS regarding
any shelter-related issue, please contact
